
Dr. Walsh, the President of Walsh & Associates Occupational Health Services, Ltd., is a full time Occupational Physician with over 25 years' experience in Occupational and Environmental Medicine. He holds a Medical Degree (MD) from Queen's University in Kingston; a Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety (DOHS) from McMaster University; and is a Fellow of the Canadian Board of Occupational Medicine (FCBOM). Dr. Walsh is an acknowledged expert in Occupational Disability Management and is frequently involved in teaching, policy and program development, and conducting presentations for major corporations and health and medical associations.
Dr. Walsh is a member of multiple medical associations, both in Canada and in the United States, and presently is the Delegate to the Ontario Medical Association (OMA) in Occupational and Environmental Medicine and serves as a Member of the Medical Examination Committee of the Canadian Board of Occupational Medicine.
Dr. Wills is a recognized Occupational Medical Consultant whose practice includes part-time work as a Staff Physician in the Department of Occupational and Environmental Health at St. Michael's Hospital in Toronto, Ontario, and an academic appointment as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Medicine at the University of Toronto. Dr. Wills has extensive clinical experience, including appointments in the Ontario Hydro Health Services Department, including a term as Chief Physician and Manager; Medical Director for the Sunoco Group of Suncor; and Consultant at the Occupational Health Clinics for Ontario Workers. Dr. Wills has conducted several research studies and published numerous papers in the field of Occupational and Environmental Medicine.
A primary care physician for over 25 years with a thriving family practice, Dr. Truman has recently expanded his practice of medicine to join Walsh & Associates as an Occupational Physician. He graduated from Queen's University in1977, completed a two-year family practice residency, and is a member of the Canadian College of Family Physicians. Dr. Truman has completed his studies in Occupational Medicine at McMaster University in Hamilton.
Norma Collins is an experienced Nurse Manager who brings with her an extensive background in disability management and human resources as former Assistant Vice-President with Medisys Health Group and former National Project Director with Canada Post. At Walsh & Associates, Norma leads the OH&S team at Quinte Health Care and also works collaboratively with the W&A management team in policy development, organizational development and strategic planning. Of Norma’s many strengths, perhaps the most evident is her client-centred, “high touch” approach to service delivery, with a strong focus on customer satisfaction and continuous quality improvement.
Wanda Dodds has completed a Diploma in Occupational Health Nursing and has worked in the industrial setting since joining Walsh and Associates in 1999. Wanda focuses on program development for health promotion, prevention and education, crisis intervention and disability management, liaising with WSIB (Workers' Safety and Insurance Board), group disability insurance providers, and health and service agencies in the community to facilitate early and safe return to work programs. She participates with the Walsh & Associates' management team to understand, influence and integrate programs consistent with the company's vision and mission.
Dave Rice has worked in manufacturing and industry for almost 30 years and has held positions in Quality Control, Production Management and, most recently, as the Safety Manager for 15 years for a major employer in the Quinte area. In that role, Dave developed and managed safety, health and environment policies and programs with a proactive, preventative approach. As the Walsh and Associates' Safety Manager, Dave will work to assist employers with the development of comprehensive safety programs as detailed in the website section "Health and Safety Program Development".
Shaena Dearman brings to Walsh and Associates extensive experience in kinesiology and ergonomics. Shaena has provided her expertise as an Ergonomic Consultant to several Quinte area employers (industrial, manufacturing, and health care sectors), providing training/educational sessions, physical demands analysis, ergonomic evaluations, job shadowing, and work hardening programs. Shaena is presently working closely with the Safety Manager, David Rice, in providing extensive occupational safety programs and services to a large health care organization.
Liz graduated with a degree in physiotherapy from the University of Toronto. She has spent the last 13 years in Belleville and is the owner of Physio One Sports Injury as well as a consultant with Walsh and Associates. Her specialty is in Orthopedic Medicine and Rehabilitation. Through extensive education and experience, Liz certified as a Manipulative Physiotherapist(CAMT) and has gone on to teach post graduate Physiotherapy courses in both Toronto and Ottawa. Her excellent musculoskeletal assessment skills help both other staff members and patients understand their condition and how best to manage their dysfunction.
Walsh & Associates employs/utilizes multiple (16) Registered Nurses (RN's) in the Occupational Health Nurse (OHN) role. All of our RNs bring extensive clinical experience and education to their occupational health nursing practice from acute care settings (Intensive Care, Coronary Care, Emergency Department), hospital based-nursing (Medical/Surgical), community and long term care nursing, and leadership/management positions.
One RN is a graduate of the Nurse Practitioner Program at Queen's University and several nurses hold or are actively pursing Bachelor of Nursing degrees. The majority of the RNs have completed their Diplomas in Occupational Health Nursing from St. Lawrence College. Additionally, Walsh & Associates provides regular internal education and skill enhancement programs and supports attendance at nursing education and conference presentations.
The Occupational Health Nurses of Walsh & Associates provide services within a diversity of employment sectors (pulp and paper, automotive, food, manufacturing, public sector, health care) in Eastern Ontario. Service provision includes acute care and first aid, disability case management , return to work programs, health promotion, immunizations, surveillance programs (audiometric, respiratory, designated substances), insurance carrier and WSIB medical management, participation in joint health and safety committees along with many other medical/preventive services.
Without the support and expertise of support staff such as Clinical Assistants and Office Managers, the Health and Medical Professionals could not carry out their myriad of responsibilities. From booking appointments, to data management and payroll processing, the day-to-day activities of Walsh & Associates are coordinated very well by the Administrative Support Staff.
